H.C. Ørsted's epochal discovery of the link between electrical current and magnetism was the start of a host of other discoveries describing the relationships between electrical and magnetic fields, and electrical charging and electrical current.

Maxwell put it all together in one unified mathematical description, which when its unique theory of relativity and quantum mechanics becomes the theory of the electros weak forces.

It was only nearly 200 years after Ørsted's discovery that the discovery of the Higgs particle finally confirmed the electro-weak theory that brings together three of nature's four fundamental forces, electromagnetism, the weak and the strong nuclear power, as a whole in the Standard model.

The gravitational force still has to be united with the other forces, in a theory of everything. The lecture reviews this amazing development and looks a little in the future
