Ørsted's discovery of the connection between electricity and magnetism was the start of a rapid evolution in our understanding of the forces of nature that dictate the course of the Universe. Through Maxwell's equations and from there the Standard model of particle physics, Ørsted's discovery is linked to the discovery of the Higgs particle, and has in the meantime produced amazing experiments and incredibly beautiful results that convince us that we are on the right path.
