H.C. ørsted's Discovery 200 years ago is part of the foundation of modern astrophysics. His experiment showed how electricity and magnetism were connected. It led directly to the discovery that visible light, infrared and ultraviolet radiation, as well as radio waves all are electromagnetic waves with different wavelengths. This discovery was fundamental to astronomy being able to flourish as a modern science. It has made it possible to determine the formation of the foundations, the existence of planets outside the solar system, as well as of dark matter, dark energy, black holes, cosmic dust, and made it possible to map the history of the universe.
