At an event in Glyptoteket on November 27, 2020, the Society for the Dissemination of Nature (SNU) honored Charles M. Marcus, who is Villum Kann Rasmussen Professor at the Niels Bohr Institute at the University of Copenhagen and head of Microsoft Quantum Lab – Copenhagen, with the company's H.C Ørsted. Ørsted. The medal was presented by the Company's patron, H.M. The Queen. The recognition coincides with the 200th anniversary of H.C. Ørsted's discovery of electromagnetism. The gold medal and the travel grant have been made possible with the support of the energy company Ørsted.

The medal has been awarded on the basis of recommendations from Danish universities and research institutions, and the professional assessment has been made by a committee of five members of the Royal Academy of Sciences and Letters.

The ceremony was supported by Carlsberg's Memorial Grant.
